How We Treat


After an assessment, we will treat your condition using any of the following methods.

Manual Therapy
May consist of any of the following modalities:-

  • Manipulation - a high velocity thrust technique used to help loosen a stiff joint.
  • Mobilisation - a more gentle technique to loosen stiff joints and ease painful joints.
  • Soft tissue techniques - massage, deep tissue, trigger point and muscle energy techniques.
  • Traction - a gentle stretching technique.

Rehabilitation

  • Exercise programmes - specific to the individual's problem.
  • Muscle imbalance correction.
  • Clinical Pilates style exercises.

  • Stability ball work.
  • Instruction using gym machines and free weights.
  • Exercise in Water

Biomechanical analysis
Observing and analysing the biomechanics of your body whilst still or in motion.

Hydrotherapy (Aquatic Physiotherapy)
Physiotherapy in water to mobilise, manipulate and strengthen muscles and joints, especially good for arthritis and ankylosing spondylitis, and early rehabilitation post-injury or surgery.

Preventative Advice

  • Postural re-education.
  • Appropriate stretching.


Ergonomic Assessments
Ergonomic assessments can be carried out for the work place, home, or sport. If necessary video analysis can be used as well.



Electrotherapy

  • Ultrasound.
  • Interferential therapy.
  • Laser.
  • Biofeedback
  • Transcutaneous Nerve Stimulation (TENS)

Acupuncture in Physiotherapy
For musculo-skeletal pain relief e.g. chronic headaches, arthritis and rheumatism, back and neck pain.

Research shows that acupuncture stimulates the brain to produce natural pain relieving chemicals - endorphins, which assist the body to heal itself and manage pain.

All physiotherapists using acupuncture are members of the Acupuncture Association of Chartered Physiotherapists and certified by the British Blood Donation Service.

Super Spines - Pilates based back and neck care course
This 6 week Pilates based course aims to improve your postural awareness, spinal flexibility and postural muscle strength, through the strengthening of the core stabilising postural muscles. A fantastic class for those with chronic back and neck pain and also for people recovering from or wanting to prevent future back and neck pain. Ideal for those who have to work long hours in poor postural positions such as office workers.



Pilates
Developed by Joseph Pilates, whose goal was to realise each person's physical capabilities, limitations and their individual needs in order to correct muscular imbalances and weaknesses. Targeting the deep postural muscles, Pilates works by building strength from the inside out, rebalancing the body and bringing it into correct alignment. One to one sessions, two to one sessions and classes (max 12 people) are all available from Physio in the city.
